This past weekend the students of the University of Detroit Mercy were lucky enough to trek through Florence, Italy for two days, some students even stayed for three! The students were lucky enough to visit the Uffizi museum and see works of famous art masters Leonardo Da Vinci, Sandro Botticelli, Michaelangelo, Giotto, and many other art masters! Aside from this the students visited a church of Gongoran Monks and had the opportunity to listen to them chant. The students finally ended their first day in Florence with a visit to the Piazza de Michaelangelo which is said to have the very best view of the entire city. On day two the Students took on the Duomo, Baptistry, and Piazza de San. Lorenzo. The Baptistry was extremely intricate and detailed, the first sight of the interior made a majority of the students jaws drop. Other students were floored when they climbed to the top of Brunelleschi’s dome on top of the Duomo, this allowed for a spectacular view of the city. Finally when the students visited the Piazza De San. Lorenzo, they were faced with the option of seeing the interior of the church, the Medici Family’s private library, or the Tomb/Crypt of the Medici Family and burial sarcophaguses designed by Michaelangelo.
